Back! With Book Recommendations
I know. I know. It’s been ages since I’ve written anything here. It’s been a little bit of an adjustment balancing grad school, work, and my personal life, so I apologize for the break in writing.
However, one of the upsides of going back to school is being exposed to new ideas (and book recommendations). I was pleased to see that Jonah Lehrer‘s second book, How We Decide, was on my class reading list at the beginning of the semester because I had read his first book, Proust Was a Neuroscientist, and I had found it pretty fascinating. Luckily, his second book was also quite enjoyable, and I would definitely recommend it. I’m not usually a big fan of business books, but I think that my instructor, Brian Reich, author of Shift & Reset, has done a good job of selecting books that temper insightful business-minded concepts with narrative. So far so good.
A second book recommendation would be A.J. Jacobs‘ Drop Dead Healthy. I’ve only read the first 3 chapters so far, but Jacobs has returned with his third book with the same humor and hapless charm as his first two books (and collection of essays). I really enjoy his (mis)adventures and the way he presents his research in a fun and relatable way. Also, marketing side-note: The day after I went to his book signing, I overheard some people talking about Jacobs’ new book in the subway, and it seemed that they were rather charmed by his TV appearance, sprinting through the park with the show host–kudos to whoever’s doing his PR, since it’s seeming to draw some real word of mouth.
More soon with cooking, NYC activities, and DIY fun.
