Inhabitat Post Apparently Ghostwritten by Me (Pun Intended)

One of the blogs I read often is Inhabitat–today, I was delighted to see them featuring my friend Aaron’s cool Mr. Ghost project in a post. And then I noticed the text was familiar. It was a guest post I’d submitted to them back in December…but apparently they don’t give credit to site users who submit content.

I know this is a little thing, but as a digital marketer, I truly believe that “mentions” and honoring your sources is part of the currency of a transparent internet, and I think it’s a little sad that they don’t acknowledge people who submit content that they then publish, especially when they feature said content several times a week.

On my company’s blog, we acknowledge user-submitted photos, guest posts, even reader-submitted questions. I believe all companies interacting online should do the same. Honestly, it’s to your company’s benefit because people love to highlight their “name in lights” to their friends—upping the “shareability” of the post.
