Terrific on Tuesdays: Garden Bragging Rights
This year, my parents’ vegetable garden is filled with plants that are hard to find in your regular run-of-the-mill supermarket, because, as my mom pointed out: why put things in your garden that are easily available when you can treat yourself to special plants. They planted Chinese vegetables like 苦瓜 (bitter melon or squash) and 毛瓜 (fuzzy melon or squash). Now you may be wondering why the right photo has bananas in it. Well, it’s because I wanted to highlight just how huge that specimen had gotten. There’s nothing more exciting than your own garden’s bounty and my mom actually waited until I visited their house before cooking that guy just to show off how spectacularly plump it had gotten. Just terrific.
Update: Because of the website reformat, I’ve lost some of the photos on the site including the ones that used to be above.
