Weekday Indulgence: Momofuku Milk Bar & Lucky Peach Magazine

Momofuku cookiesLast night, following some nosh at S’Mac, my friend Alex and I stopped by Momofuku MilkĀ  Bar for a take-home dessert. She got 3 cookies (cornflake, blueberry, and something I can’t remember), while I got a slice of (decadent) candy bar pie. (Note: the grasshopper pie is also excellent.)

As I turned to leave, I saw the pile of Lucky Peach magazines, about which the blogosphere has been busily waxing poetic, which I figured as a food lover, Asian, and Bourdain fan I had to pick up. With its illustrations, essays, and single(ish) subject per issue format, it reminded me of my zine dreams in high school–I’m jealous that David Chang’s stumbled upon the ragtag team to make this sort of thing happen, and make it work too. I’ll report back on my feelings once I’ve had a chance to read through all the essays and whatnot. (Note: The subscription price of $25 a year mentioned inside seems pretty reasonable, considering that this issue cost $10. I may sign up.)

Anyway, I know I’ve been derelict when it comes to writing in the last few weeks, but I’ve had house guests, personal junk, and lots of dishes to cook. Apologies for not writing–but I have been taking lots of photos, so be sure to look out for new posts in the next few weeks. We’ll be covering ketchup fried rice (yes, you read that correctly), homemade mayonnaise, places to play board games in NYC, and more.
