Time Out: 3 Things I Did This September to Unwind

This summer was a non-stop series of events, conferences, client projects, and busy days. I didn’t even make it to the beach, which–for me–is a big deal. With that said, I’m almost out of the woods, and in the last few weeks, I have been able to make a little time for myself. (And I’m finally making time to post on my blog!)

Foraging with Leda Meredith

I’ve been interested in foraged foods and local plants for the last year or two, doing a lot of reading on my own. But I’ve been wanting to take a foraging class, and when my friend Michelle mentioned that her former neighbor and botanical writer Leda Meredith was giving a class, I was psyched. Leda’s class covered only a small range of the edible plants that you can find in New York City, but it was great nonetheless.

Time for Paper Crafting

While I’ve dabbled with crafts from embossing to beading to woodwork, I’ve never been really into paper-crafting. That being said, I’m not above trying a cool project when I see one. I saw a kit for this wreath at Paper Source a few months ago, and when I needed a mental break recently, I pulled it out and assembled it. Easy but time consuming, this kit was a perfect way to do a little crafting without too much commitment to all the tools needed for a traditional paper-craft project.

A Visit Downtown

On September 11, I visited the WTC Memorial with a friend, and it was just as beautiful and peaceful as you would hope. Having lived less than 20 miles south of the city when it happened, I was drawn to the memorial. Although I had walked past it several times, I hadn’t spent any time in the plaza–I find that New Yorkers often miss out on the landmarks in our own city–so I was very glad to have been able to visit on the anniversary.

What have you been up to this summer? Anything special? Fill me in.
